Originally showcased at Cultivator in 2018, Silence is _______. Beep. Beep. Beep. has been reimagined for the Terrain Biennial 2025. Discover it this fall at 125 S Humphrey Ave. in Oak Park, IL, on view October 1 through November 13.

The sculpture and sound installation offers a quiet refuge amid the bustle of daily life. Visitors enter a woven structure of elastic threads—a protective cocoon that both filters and embraces the noise outside. Inside, the pulse of the city—traffic, voices, sirens—coexists with gentle nature sounds—birds, wind, rustling leaves—creating a lived experience of silence that isn’t absence, but intentional presence.

Within this calm cocoon, you can also listen to binaural beats tuned to brainwave frequencies, guiding you into therapeutic states of rest, reflection, or focus. These subtle auditory pulses help synchronize the mind, offering a meditative counterbalance to urban stimulus.
